Tartuensis is the embodiment of our recycling and upcycling principles. Yes, it is a notebook, but it is also part of the story about our love for books. And this one we are extremely proud of with its rainbow of cream and green content pages it really feels like spring.

The process starts with discards from libraries, often Soviet propaganda literature or outdated study books. While the texts have served their purpose long since, they did know how to make sturdy covers back then. We carefully disassemble the books to separate the covers from the contents. The former we stack by width, height and thickness while contents are reused to manufacture paper — look for Tartuensis hand made paper in our store.

Next we produce new content blocks, using either recycled or printing industry leftover materials. The covers are now attached to the empty pages, giving another round of use to the materials. Hopefully this will be for great ideas, art, stories and poems. But basically from here on the story is yours — you decide what you will fill the pages with. Whatever it is, remember to recycle them when you're done ;)

We call the series Tartuensis in homage to our home town and one of the oldest universities in Northern Europe, Universitatis Tartuensis — The University of Tartu. From K. E. von Baer, who discovered the ovum in mammals to Y. Lotman, the founder of Soviet (Tartu-Moscow) school in semiotics, Tartu has been the meeting point of great minds since 1632. We intend to keep it that way.

This Tartuensis notebook has the following characteristics:
