History: Hubert Selby grew up in Brooklyn and drew from his experiences in this one time hell hole. The novel was very controversial and even banned in some places for profanity. The book describes a very hellish place and the dark and cruel inner workings of human beings. Last Exit and another one of Selby's stories, Requiem for a Dream were made into films, the latter winning numerous awards. In the case of Last Exit, the book is way better than the movie and is a must read for any aspiring writer or reader of 1960's American literature.

This is one of the books that got me into writing and becoming more interested in literature altogether. I got the opportunity to see Selby speak and read from his novels, so he, as a writer has a warm place in my heart. This book appears to be unread and is unbelievably in very good condition for a paperback being they weren't made to stand the test of time. There aren't too many of here first printing paperbacks around to my knowledge.
