Part of the print album 'MiscPrints'

This printmaking series is a return to the softer shapes and colors of my earlier work (such as LookingGlass6), but keeping it somewhat more minimal and abstract. As often the focus is on layers of opposites such as bold and suggestive hues, dense and transparent elements, addition and subtraction and graphic value. Text as a graphic element combined with delicate line drawings in ink and graphite feature more prominently here.

Re-utilizing text fragments of the first chapter of Moby Dick led to the overall imagery, developed from the cut out spaces in the text. Bizarrely enough a shape reminiscent of a crab claw emerged as a kind of leitmotif through all three prints which together with the maritime nature of the text led me to see a crab walking across the sheets of paper.
The pieces are subsequently entitled CrabWalk1, Crabwalk2 and CrabWalk3.

Together they make CrabWalk1.2.3 and are more than the sum of its parts.
These should really go together as a set, but work nicely individually as well.
