A while ago Andy mentioned that he wanted to learn to tie a proper bow tie. When his birthday rolled around soon after, I made him one. After a challenging few tries he managed to produce a very respectable bow. It gets easier and easier with practice. Anyway, it worked out so well that we decided to make some together for our shop.

This is a self-tie/freestyle bow tie which is adjustable in the back which must be retied each time (more practice and more interesting!). It will fit neck sizes 14.5" -18". The bow tie measures 5 1/2" across and 3" tall.
It is made of a natural sand coloured linen with hand stitched topstitching around the border which gives it a casual shabby chic feel..The structure of the bow is supported by a lightweight interfacing, used in tailoring, sewn in so that it does not collapse over time.

The following quote from wikipedia gave us a bit of a giggle:
Stereotypes of bow tie wearers
"To its devotees the bow tie suggests iconoclasm of an Old World sort, a fusty adherence to a contrarian point of view. The bow tie hints at intellectualism, real or feigned, and sometimes suggests technical acumen, perhaps because it is so hard to tie. Bow ties are worn by magicians, country doctors, lawyers and professors and by people hoping to look like the above. But perhaps most of all, wearing a bow tie is a way of broadcasting an aggressive lack of concern for what other people think."
—Warren St John, The New York Times
