The romantic design of this antique original Art Nouveau button (*not* a stamping, but beautifully forged) celebrates a movement deeply influenced by the sinuous curves and organic beauty of nature. I found these exquisitely detailed buttons in Paris, and they feature a fantastic design of a woman with her hair in a Gibson Girl updo, and an expression filled with lots of wistful charm, framed by Victorian flourishes.

Made from a bronze colored metal with multi-hued original patina acquired naturally through the decades of the past century, it measures approx. 1 1/4" in diameter. The patina reflects bits of bronze, copper, etc...

These lovely buttons were cast by hand in France, an epicenter of the Art Nouveau movement, where the Bohemian Czech artist Alphonse Mucha grew increasingly popular for his lavish illustrations... They would be wonderful for a collector of unique vintage and antique buttons, sewing ephemera, or the Art Nouveau style popular in the Victorian and Edwardian era. The looped shanks on the reverse of the buttons are in great shape, so they could most certainly be sewn and used as a beautiful decorative accent on a hat, cuff, lapel, choker, or any other of a variety of uses.
