The first time she saw a double rainbow, it took her breath away. She was in Venice. She was running home just after being caught in a spectacular summer rainstorm when she stopped abruptly on the Accademia Bridge. “Arco belleno” everyone in the area uniformly marveled. The clouds were an inky dark purple mirrored off the aqua-colored canals, surely the inspiration of so many Venetian painters of the distant past. With a slight part between threatening formations, two distinguishable rainbows appeared side by side.

The second time, years later, she was sailing in Eastchester Bay and Long Island Sound. Having grown up on a riverbank almost a hundred miles away, she always seems to find a way to be around water.
