American Limoges 11 Piece Collection Vermilion Rose Set Circa 1940's. This set consists 4 of Dinner Plates, 5 Soup Bowls, and a Sugar Bowl and Creamer.

I have had a serious love affair with French Limoges since I could walk, it isn't pretty. Have to put some of the heavy handed influence on my Family, which I am extremely proud. When I discovered this American Limoges I was intrigued. Here is the story...

The Company was first established in East Liverpool, Ohio in 1887. The interesting fact is this organization went through some serious name changing, where in today's world would never survived, confusing their clientele.

Their names are the following in historical consecutive order. First Sterling China, next Sebring China Company,Limoges China Company. During a few years the Salem China Company,Sebring Pottery, and American Limoges were all run by the same management and had the same in-house designer, which explains the numerous duplications of patterns and shapes.

After a dispute with the French Limoges Company in France over the use of the Limoges name, the name of their Company was finally changed to American Limoges in 1949. They made very fine quality of semi-porcelain dinnerware until they closed in 1955.

The dinner plates measure 9 1/4" in diameter, the soup bowls measure 8 1/4" in diameter. The open sugar bowl measures 3 1/4" tall X 6" handle to handle. The creamer measures 3 1/4" tall X 5" handle to spout. The design is vermilion rose, in layman's terms an orange, as the Pantone's Color of 2012, Tangerine Tango. Each piece is trimmed in 22-k gold. The leaves of the rose are in shades of tans and burnt sienna.

There is a chip on the bottom of the creamer, you can only see it when the creamer is turned up side down, when it is sitting on a table there is no evidence of the ship, refer to photo # 5 . There is some crazing on some plates, but in no way detracts from the beauty of the pieces. This would be a great Limoges set for a vintage novice or someone like me that is honestly addicted to anything Limoges.

Call Dr. Who and find out the next time he is in town and we will bring out the good china, remember he loves this era, don't forget to tell him the dress code is Tangerine Tango!
