Unknown date, but very, very old. Could be in the 200 year old range.
Great traditional and cultural Japanese craftsmenship. It likely took the artist months to create it.

Real elephant Ivory. All carved from one solid tusk.
From the bottom;
There is a man holding a pipe sitting next to a chicken. Another man standing, holding baskets filled with goods. Over them are a man and a kid standing on part of a tree. Leaves adorn the backside.
The relief and detail to this piece is museum quality in every way.

It's very much real ivory. With Schreger lines very apparent on the bottom end. (Best seen in the 5th photo)
