This is an unusual vintage sterling niello (enamel) ring. The design is the typical Thai temple dancers or goddesses. The marks inside the band read:
Although the name "Siam" was changed to Thailand in 1948, the Siam mark continued to be used into the 1950s.
I have had lots of pieces of niello jewelry. Rings are relatively rare, and adjustable ones are particularly hard to find.
SIZE: This ring is currently a finger size 6 1/2. It is adjustable to any size. The width (measured north to south, knuckle to knuckle) is 1/2". The width at the center bottom is 2.2 mm. The weight is 2.0 grams.
PICTURES HAVE BEEN ENLARGED TO SHOW DETAIL. PLEASE SEE SIZE SECTION ABOVE FOR ACCURATE MEASUREMENTS AND WEIGHTS.
TO ASSURE THAT YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE PURCHASING, I ENCOURAGE YOU TO USE A RULER TO SEE WHAT SIZE THE ITEM IS. MOST RULERS HAVE A MILLIMETER SCALE OPPOSITE THE INCH SCALE.
CONDITION: This ring is in good, but not perfect, condition. See closeup pictures of minor damage to the enamel. Because this is a relatively small ring, the damage is too small to be easily seen at normal viewing distance. The flaws can be seen if viewed from a very close distance.
BACKGROUND: This ring is part one of a number of silver rings I bought from a man who recently closed his brick and mortar vintage jewelry store. I'll be listing more of these this week.
