An antique Art Deco gemstone scarab bracelet probably from the 1920's. It is marked on the connecting ring 1/20 12K GF and a makers mark that I cannot make out. It looks like AMMADV but it might be an Egyptian word. Stones include carnelian, moonstone, unakite, blue agate, green onyx, rhodonite, and citrine. Bracelet is 7.5 inches long and is in good vintage condition with some wear to the gold on the backs. The original spring ring was broken so I have replaced it with a gold plated one. I will include the original with the 1/20 12K mark. The scarabs are approximately 10x12mm and each scarab has a hand carved symbol on the back. It could use cleaning but I will leave that up to the buyer.

There have been several Egyptian Revival periods in the past 300 years. The expeditions that eventually led to the discovery in 1922 of the treasure of Tutankhamun's tomb by the archaeologist Howard Carter resulted in a 20th-century revival. The revival during the 1920s is considered to be part of the Art Deco decorative arts style. Glass and stone scarab beetles were used in jewelry designs, including bracelets, rings, necklaces, brooches and stickpins.

The Egyptians regarded the scarab as sacred because it signified new life. The scarab beetle was a symbol of Khepera, the rising sun god. The beetle moves from east to west which mimics the path of the divine god Ra as he rolls across the sky each day. For this reason, the scarab was also seen as a symbol of the heavenly cycle of rebirth and regeneration.
