This lovely, beaded ceramic hand formed mug was made for the ultimate coffee or tea experience. It has a brown and yellow food grade base glaze with splashes of copper luster on the bracelet, handle and brown glaze drips. The beads are copper crystal and raku colored glass and they hang from the bracelet built into the body of the cup with high fire wire fired bails. It cannot be used in the micorwave (sparks and more fire!) or stuck in the dishwasher (hand wash only).

Size is 5" wide at the handle and 3" diameter by 5" height.

Please note that pictures may have darker or lighter colors on different monitors and the pieces are usually much brighter and more colorful than portrayed in these pictures.

Each piece is hand formed in traditional methods, and textures from nature are added to enhance the the experience. My raku firings reach a temperature of 1888 degrees F. All of the pieces are signed and numbered with the exception of pieces that are too small.

Multiple ultra-thin layers of different metal oxides (gold, silver, titanium, chromium, aluminum, zirconium, magnesium, silicon) are vaporized by an electron beam in a vacuum chamber. The vapor then condenses on the surface of the glass in the form of a crystal structure. This is sometimes followed by a protective layer of quartz crystal. The finished glass can have as many as 30 to 50 layers of these materials yet the thickness of the total coating is approximately 30 to 35 millionths of an inch (about 760 to 890 nm). The coating that is created is very similar to a gemstone and, by careful control of thickness, different colors are obtained.
The term Raku refers to a rapid firing technique, adapted from ancient Japanese firing traditions. Most of the work I do is done with hand building techniques. Wet clay is formed into the desired shape and or finished and left to dry for up to 2 days before going on to the first firing stage. Pieces are then bisque fired, glazed, and taken in the molten red hot stage to be Raku fired. This requires bringing the kiln to a temperature of 1800 degrees F. and taking each piece individually to the Raku firing container for the final part of the process. The resulting combustion in the Raku environment brings metals in the glaze to the surface and is always unpredictable and beautiful.
Many of my pieces have a heavy nature influence. Use of real plant inspired products gives us all an opportunity for reflection and thoughtfulness for the importance that Mother Nature has in all of our lives and I love being able to make for you treasured nature tokens to use in your daily routines.

Hemp, silk, cotton, copper, brass, bronze, tin, silver, earth clay, glass, river stones and naturally formed ore and minerals are the material focus for most of my jewels.
