Practical Criticism: A Study of Literary Judgement by I.A. Richards

Ivor Armstrong Richards was an influential English literary critic and rhetorician. His books proved to be founding influences for the New Criticism. The concept of ‘practical criticism’ led in time to the practices of close reading, what is often thought of as the beginning of modern literary criticism, particularly focusing on poetry.

Vintage paperback published by Harvest Books. No date on this edition but likely 60s or 70s. First published in 1929. Very good condition. Previous owner wrote their name and dated it ‘12 - 72.’ Housed in protective plastic sleeve.
