Vintage Art Deco Galalith Brooch in Sea Green - Circa 1915 - 1935

Item Condition: Very Good

About this one of a kind piece:

This gorgeous Galalith Art Deco pin is a rare find! It consists of thick pieces of sea green
Galalith rods displayed in a classic Art Deco design. The rods are naturally glossy and attached via 8 rivets to a chrome backing. The chrome back consists of two plates and that fit the plastic pieces perfectly. This vintage piece was clearly a belt buckle at its inception - and it has been repurposed into a fabulous vintage brooch. The pin features a vintage/antique 'C' clasp/catch - so the transformation from buckle to brooch most likely took place during the Art Deco Era. I estimate the buckle to be from as early as 1915.

This vintage beauty is sturdy and well-constructed as evidenced behind the scenes (just look at the pictures of the back!). It's a bit crude, but it's an amazing example of early repurposing of vintage jewelry! You can see where the buckle was soldered to the chrome to prevent opening; the C catch mechanisms were carefully soldered in place at a later date. This piece is very sturdy! And the shiny Galalith rods are a beautiful shade of sea-green.

Pin/Brooch measures 1 7/8" wide and approximately 1 1/4" at tallest points (the two tallest tubes in the center of the brooch). Galalith rods are approximately 3/8" thick.

I've priced this piece with the following in mind: it has been altered from its original state; there is no signature or proof that it was crafted by a famous designer (such as Jacob Bengel); the piece, albeit altered, is in very good condition and is a stunning example of Galalith in its original form (as produced).
