One of a kind.

A shimmering silver and white, five-layered, Art Deco ballet gown from the 1920s.

Completely restored to its original glamor.

This vintage tulle gown is a surviving costume worn by a ballerina in a 1920s performance of La Sylphide, one of the great romantic ballets performed around the world since 1836. The fairy wings on the shoulders and back are part of the ballerina's classic costume. The heavy tulle tutu is in photographs of many 1920s ballet performances. Please Google to see them.

At the top of each shoulder on this wonderful vintage costume is an airy wired "wing" made of fine linen and edged in silk for an angelic appearance. The back of dress is also accented with a set of wired "wings" ---such a vision of ethereal elegance!

About the construction: The vintage dress's bodice has boning which ends just up under the bust. We kept as much of the original cotton lining as we could even though it has yellowed with age. The dress closes on the side with 8 original hooks and eyes which extend from the bodice past the waist and down into the tulle. The outside of the bodice is covered with shiny and iridescent silk. Although this vintage 1920s ballet dress was in incredibly good condition when purchased at an estate sale, we reinforced or replaced the most delicate areas of the satin with matching fine silk from a wedding dress of the same time period.

The Art Deco tutu skirt reaches almost to the floor and consists of FIVE layers of heavy white tulle with a hint of silver. The very light silver color is difficult to see in these pictures. The tulle is all original and is not ripped. It is a mystery how it remained so perfect after all these years.

This vintage Art Deco tulle dress is now in perfectly wearable condition and ready for many more celebrations. It would be an breathtaking prom dress, ballet costume or an ethereal wedding dress. Rest assured, no other woman in the world will have this dress.

These measurements were taken on the outside the of the gown:

Waist: 27"
Length: 48"
Length from top to shoulder to center of waist:16"
Across front of dress at bust-line: 19"
Across back of dress at same height: 17"

This incredibly glamorous dress from the mid 1920s was professionally hand washed three times, and then dry cleaned to bring back of its original shine and glamor. The only indication of its age now is slight darkening of the light cotton lining, There is also a whisper of pink in a very small spot on one "wing" where a young woman -- so many decades ago - must have brushed her lipstick against the dress. We were able to remove most of the lipstick but that a hint of color in one small spot remains---a reminder of the incredible history of this Art Deco ballet costume as it must have danced through the glamorous 1920s.

This dress is rare surviving example of 1920s ballet gowns. Please email us any questions.
