An intricately handcarved cherry wood letter box. The wood grain shows through and is wonderfully incorporated into the design. Handcrafted in Japan, around 1912.

No chipping at all. Very slight, small warp at one corner on the side and three faint vertical lines on woodtop due to age (see photo). Please note that the grain showing on top is part of the design and not chipping. Box interior is lacquered.

The box is in very good condition. I was told in Japan that obtaining this box in such condition is quite rare as many of the boxes that have survived are either are either chipped or broken.

Funny Japanese candy not included.
