With windswept hair in a fiery sunset bronze and soft leather, she returns from her long journey wandering the desert sand dunes.

She's a dun filly, my favorite horse color (and one I own personally), complete with dark points and a dorsal stripe. Dun horses look just like they've walked through fire with their dark legs and smoldered markings. I made her as the female version of my dun gelding, with his tail hair dragging the ground and his mane just about to his knees. She's the fluffy female version of my dear, sweet horse.

Windswept Desert filly is sculpted from toasty speckled stoneware that I pressed on open weave canvas and burlap. Once bisque fired, I washed her in black and rusty chocolate oxide. Her points and dorsal are painted in oxide after her oxide wash. She was definitely a cross-your-fingers and hope-it-works sculpture because I sculpted her hollow. Hollow sculptures can be very challenging because they have a tendency to explode in the kiln. She truly was a challenge to create, but that's what makes her so very special.

Her mane, tail and forelock are long and beautiful antiqued bronze (vintaj) and soft, rolled leather. She stands 15 inches tall and, including her tail and forelock hair, 12 inches wide. She truly looks as though she just wandered in from the desert, so natural and wild.

NOTE: Recently selected for competition in the Shelby County Arts Council's 4th Annual Juried Art Festival.
