I used to travel a lot when I worked at Christie’s--and I loved it. I still travel now, but more driving than flying. I know a lot of people hate traveling for work, but not being in the office, seeing the country and experiencing different places was fabulous. I miss my days being Executive Platinum on American!

So when I saw this mug, I sighed wistfully. Awww...LAX. Your American terminal kind of sucks, but at least you’re usually good for a minor celebrity sighting. This souvenir no doubt dates to the 1960s when the curvy Theme Building at LAX was new and the glamorous jet set dressed for the flight. I’m betting they didn’t have to bring a salad from the Chili’s in the terminal on board with them for lunch.

This is unmarked, but the lightweight ceramic body almost certainly identifies it as being made in Japan. The Theme Building and plane above are molded in low relief.

Measures 4 inches high.

Overall condition is good, but not perfect. There are two tiny losses to the glaze at the rim, right near each other--see detail image--but there is no crazing to the glaze, which is most often the case in these Japanese souvenirs.
