There is no fabric in the world as exclusive and luxurious as Vicuna. This vintage 1950s Vicuna coat comes from an upscale Las Vegas estate, and the original owner took such great care of it, that it was stored inside out, so that any wear that might occur over the years would affect only the lining, and not the precious vicuna wool. The result is that the quality of the exterior is indeed beautifully preserved. It is a very deep, dark navy blue, but not so dark that it would be confused with black. The vicuna cloth is absolutely buttery - a texture that is unmistakeable. It is lined with a heavy, drapey rayon faille.

Originally sold at Saks Fifth Avenue, it is labeled "Stroock, Vicuna Cloth, The World's Finest Fabric" and "Tailored by Originalia."

A coat of this caliber today would easily run to the $15,000 range, if not more. It is a true investment piece. It is well and appropriately priced for a vintage piece, but sold well under value.

You might note that there are long threads hanging from the tag, which has taken some wear during storage. I decided to leave it intact exactly as it is, rather than restitching it, for fear that - god forbid - someone should think I had moved the tag to the coat.

Shoulders: 15.5
Bust: 46"
Waist: 46"
Hips: 48"
Length: 39"

Condition: Very Good
There is one single moth chew on this garment - at the lower corner of the right-hand pocket. Due to the location, and the fact that it is backed with the same exterior cloth, it is difficult to see. Upon very close examination, one can see some minor rubbing along the edge of the pocket opening trim, and the very edge of the open "mantle" of the coat - just some loss of the fuzziness of the weave. Due to the value and scarcity of the this piece, I am being exacting with the condition evaluation. This coat wears beautifully, looks perfect on, and has many, many more years of wear.
