If you have ever wanted an antique locket or a pendant that could be your signature piece,I highly recommend this one!
Done is a motif that will be harder to find, this gold pendant has a lot to offer.A womans serene face, framed in whisps of hair peeks out from a quarter moon. This whimsical design is easily recognized, magical like only Victorian and nouveau pieces were.
This pendant is bloomed gold,a techique many collectors know and appreciate. In simple terms, gold was dipped into an acid bath by the jeweler to create a matte, warm surface to the gold. The highs as they touch surfaces would gain luster to create a 3-d effect. What you are seeing is not light spots on the locket but a change of texture, shiny against matte so that it reflects.Locket and pendants,brooches- well jewelry of all kinds, sported this techinique. It is truly lovely and is a lost process really only seen in antique jewelry.
The pendant is circa 1890-1910,most likely 1900-1905.These pendants are fashioned like lockets with out the opening, slightly puffed.Ive seen them both as both pendants and fobs.
It is in really beautiful, ready to wear and enjoy condition.Only the tiniest of ripples in the back so shallow and small you may not notice.Up top,it appears that the original bail was damaged so that place was soldered closed(pictured) and the pendant was drilled for wear.It is unpolished so there is some patina from age.Perfect in size for an everyday piece.
The pendant tested positive for 12-14k gold, the replacement ring I believe is gold fill. You'll be hard pressed to find a more beautiful pendant and I cant wait for the new buyer to behold her! A real collectors item!
Standard locket size,1" in diamter not including the ring.
