⏩ Details ⏪
The Australia Skirt is an easy-to-sew, easy-to-wear wardrobe staple: a simple straight-cut skirt saved from boringness by the fun scoop pockets and on-trend drawstring waist. This pattern is the first in a series of zero-waste and low-waste patterns, with tons of details to make the skirt long-wearing and useful: French seams give a beautiful finish and increase durability, and a removable lining means you can take this skirt from one season to the next. The waistband is slightly angled to be lower in front and higher in back, meaning it sits comfortably under your tummy but still rises high enough in the back to stay put and not cause any wardrobe malfunctions. The waistband is elasticized in the back with a drawstring in the front: the perfect combination of practical comfort and style.

⏩ Difficulty⏪
Intermediate. The style of minimal-waste cutting (drawing the pattern directly on the fabric using measurements, without a paper pattern) may be unfamiliar even to experienced sewers. All measurements are given in centimeters. After the cutting stage, this pattern is very easy to sew: if you’re familiar with basic sewing terms and techniques (hemming, topstitching), then you can make this skirt! Other techniques such as French seaming are explained in detail.

⏩ Sizes ⏪
This pattern is available in European sizes 32 to 58 (hip measurement 84 cm to 148 cm / 33 inches to 58 inches). Choose your size based on your hip measurement; the drawstring and elastic make the waist easily adjustable.

⏩ Fabrics and Notions ⏪
This pattern is designed for medium-weight woven fabrics which are at least 150 cm (60 inches) wide. Good choices include linen, denim or chambray. You will also need thread in a coordinating color and 3 cm wide elastic - see the sizing chart for exactly how much you will need. When choosing fabric, keep in mind that the skirt is cut cross-grain, so vertical stripes will become horizontal, and vice-versa. Directional prints will go in opposite directions on the back and front of the skirt.

See the second photo above for the amount of fabrics and elastic you will need. Because this is a zero-waste pattern, these are exact amounts - if your fabric will shrink in the wash, buy a few centimeters extra!

Love the idea of this and have managed to get my head round how to connect neck/body/base . The neck on the raglan sleeve top without fastening was very small so I made an extra piece for a fastening. Shall definitely keep using the pattern and experiment with different combos. Thanks
