Description

Bateleur Eagle (Helotarsus ecaudatus), sometimes called the Short-tailed Eagle, from the northeastern and southern parts of Africa. It is about two feet long, general colour on upper surface black, with greenish-metallic gloss, tail brownish red, and an ash-grey band on wings. The name bateleur, which is French, and means "a tumbler," was given to the bird by Le Vaillant from its habit of turning somersaults in the air.

Here's a fine little antique engraving from Germany back in 1905 of a stately looking Bateleur Eagle. This is one of the most exquisitely detailed antique illustrations you'll ever see!

'Bateleur Eagle' measures 5.25" x 5" overall. He's engraved on heavy paper and it has printing on the reverse side. He's in glorious condition captured in classic crisp basic black and creamy ecru white.
This fabulous illustration is perfect.; smooth and flat with firm edges and square corners and almost no tanning at all... remarkable condition for 106 year old paper

Matted and framed and displayed in a grouping, these old vintage natural history book prints are simply spectacular. (Please note that the framed examples in the last photos are to show how this might look when it's framed. Your lovely print will come to you unmatted and unframed.)

Your antique owl will arrive safely at your place via those lovely folks at the USPS cradled in a rigid mailer to protect them along the journey from my place to yours.

Surrender Dorothy offers a vast jaw-dropping assortment of gorgeous vintage prints, maps, charts, drawings, etchings, engravings and illustrations of every description to adorn every room in your home sweet home. Cool art finds for your workplace too.

Damages In The US Mail.
They happen sometimes.
Although we carefully wrap our vintage breakables in tons of bubblewrap and tons of padding and pack them in sturdy shipping boxes, damages still sometimes happen. *sigh*
Please tell us about damaged goods ASAP. Photograph the damages and send photos to us so that we can work it out with USPS.

Shipping policies

We ship by way of the United States Postal Service only.
Yes, FedEx and UPS are a little bit cheaper, but we find them to be very brutal with our delicates and breakables, so we refuse to play with them.

International Orders
The answer is YES we do ship internationally. Please just ask! There are many shipping destinations on this planet and each one is a slightly different price.

Additional policies

While it is considered customary for many antique and vintage shops to consider offers and dicker prices, our shop simply doesn't.
We've priced our merchandise as fairly as humanly possible. Please don't ask us to haggle.
Thank you.
