Nettle yarn is made from the Himalayan nettle plant, a cousin of the stinging nettle plant common in the US. No, this yarn does not sting, but it has a pungent odor! Nettle yarn is a natural moth repellent, and is used in Nepal to back wool rugs. This fair trade yarn was produced and spun by a women's collective in Nepal with whom I've worked closely for years; your purchase helps these women escape poverty and send their children to school.

Nettle yarn resembles twine - somewhat stiff, with very little elasticity. Over time the yarn will soften and the odor will dissipate. Because it is handspun, the diameter of the yarn varies slightly throughout the skein. There may be a few knots or discontinuities within the hank.

This 3.4 oz hank is 140 - 145 yards. Limited additional quantities are available; convo me if you'd like more.

The shipping rates quoted below are for USPS First Class. For a small additional fee, I can ship by Priority Mail [within the US, Priority shipping for this item would cost $4.90]. International buyers: convo me for a shipping quote if your country is not listed below, if you need Priority service, or if you want to buy multiple items.

Interested but nervous about nettle yarn's odor? Convo me and I'll mail you a small complimentary sample.
