[In addition to being vintagely awesome, these kind of look like the ones Jennifer Lawrence wears as Katniss in The Hunger Games (which are actually by Frye and cost $398 http://www.thefryecompany.com/womens-boots/view-all/77015/melissa-tall-lace?color=DBN).]

These mid-calf black boots are a women's size 8.5D, luckily for folks such as myself who don't have teeny-tiny 19th century feet (I'm an 8)! They are somewhat mysterious as to their age, because they have been fixed up so well by an expert cobbler: they've been resoled with Cat's Paw soles (Won't Slip!, see picture 3) and there is some very neat stitching over the right pinky toe. They have an almost Victorian or Edwardian look to them, but their size and lack of pointy toes puts them later. I believe they're from the thirties or forties, and were fixed up in the fifties or sixties (judging from the soles).

They were made in Italy for the North American market, as many shoes used to be before the 1950s, and are black calfskin with tan calfskin lining. They have 5 sets of eyes (, then 8 sets of hooks, then 2 more sets of eyes, which makes them easier to get on and off than if there weren't any hooks. One of the top metal eyes on the right boot is missing; looks like it was torn out from overvigorous lacing. Most of the eyes and hooks are a little discoloured with age; I think they're non-stainless steel.

These boots have seen some wear, but are definitely wearable and in decent vintage condition. Whoever owned them took good care of them and they have many more years of use in them. I've put new laces in them, since the old ones were quite worn and broken in several places.
