Original painting by Emily W. Martin.

I created this painting after I got a bee in my bonnet about the notion of a girl playing the banjo in the middle of the woods. A stag, bear, fox, rabbit, squirrel and owl are gathered 'round to hear her song.

The whole time I was working on this painting, I kept thinking she was singing/playing them the Burl Ives song "Buckeye Jim". I feel almost certain that's what she's playing, there among the animals and the lily-of-the-valley.

Specifics:
-The painting is created in acrylic on a beautifully crafted cradled hardwood panel (if you are unfamiliar with the cradled panels, see the last image.)
-The panel measures 11"x14", and is 2" thick, which means it is raised nicely off of the wall or hanging surface.
-The painted surface is varnished in multiple coats of satin varnish, and the sides and corners are sanded smooth, painted matte black and very lightly distressed for a warm, slightly worn look.
-These panels can be hung from a single screw or nail, making them extremely easy to hang.
-Signed in the bottom right corner.
