Although originally fashioned as a smock, we just love this ultrasuede top as a mini-dress. In a fabulous, pristine, light-camel hue, this little honey of a sleeveless dress/shirt sports a front and back yoke with gentle gathering stitches, two side front pockets, side slits, a slash front, and a back zipper. Pair with tights or leggings, your favorite boots, a wide belt, and big grin! You’ll be chic and super cool, too!

Vera Maxwell (1901-1995) had her introduction into the fashion world as a model. She studied tailoring in London and upon her return to New York worked as a designer for sportswear and coat firms. Vera Maxwell Originals opened in 1947 and she is considered one of the founders of the American “look” along with Cashin and McCardell. Maxwell received a Coty Special Award in 1951 and a Neiman-Marcus Award in 1955. She continued to design under her label until 1964. After being retired for a while, she made her comeback in 1970 designing classic dresses and separates from the new fabric, Ultrasuede. She continued to design until the middle 1980s.
