Hannya masks are used in traditional Japanese theater, including Noh Theater. They are also used in Shinto rituals.

In modern culture the image of a Hannya mask is popular as a tattoo. It’s also used in both manga and anime.

Hannya masks represent jealous female demons and the souls of women who have become demons by their obsession or jealousy. Hannya is said to be dangerous and erotic, but also sorrowful and tormented.

Use of the Hannya mask in Japanese theater goes back hundreds of years.

My bronze Hannya pendant is shown, but I also make them in sterling silver.

I reproduced and adapted this pendant from an antique Japanese ornament. One of my pictures shows the Hannya Mask Pendant next to a penny for scale.

From the top of her head to her chin, not including loops, my Hannya pendant is about an inch long, and about 11/16 of an inch wide from ear to ear. All my pendants come with an adjustable black silky cord.

California orders will be charged sales tax.
