A simple, traditional wooden salad bowl made from reclaimed honey locust. This bowl measures 11" wide by 3" deep and features a non-toxic, food safe finish.

There are times and occasions which call for a very large, grand salad bowl; a bowl which requires two strong hands to pass to the next guest at the table. For the rest of the time, this is the bowl you want when it's just you and your family tucking in to a nice dinner or lunch. Measuring 11" x 3", this bowl is suitable for a family of 4. It is equally functional as a fruit bowl or a fabulous popcorn bowl.

The more I work with it, the more I love honey locust. The wood is hard and heavy when freshly cut and is prone to cracking while it dries. With care, I have managed to dry quite a nice stash of this gorgeous, hard, durable wood. When one of my arborists called me about a honey locust he had been contracted to remove, I was not expecting to embark on a new love affair with yet another species of tree.

It is finished with food safe, non-toxic walnut oil which I favour over mineral oil or beeswax finishes. These other finishes do not last well because they do not harden (or "cure") and wear away rather quickly. Walnut oil penetrates the wood fibres and hardens, offering a long lasting protection which is easily renewed should you ever feel the need.

Thank you for stopping by.
