Thimbles were given as love tokens in Victorian times when gifts of any type were discouraged between men and women. Peter Pan and Wendy exchanged thimbles and acorn buttons as kisses. In American Colonial times when items of jewelry were prohibited for moral reasons a thimble was the gift from a fiance to his future bride as a symbol of love and pledge of eternal togetherness. When she married the women removed the bottom of the thimble to form more of a wedding ring. With such a long history thimbles as a tender gesture of affection I have created a series of thimble necklaces.

This 1" X 1" wood thimble has been beautifully hand painted in shades of bluish gray, black and white and finished and with a glossy finish. The word "Kiss" Is painted on the side in script letters. The thimble hangs from a 34" double strand of of hand dyed rayon ribbon in variegated shades of gold, blue, green, brown, and rust. A beautiful kiss for your love or you!
