Fantastic grass green silky rayon 1940's two piece jacket and skirt set. The print is of a male suitor (almost harlequin like) with flowers and hearts throughout in shocking pink, lime green and white on a rich green background. Very similar to the patterns brought out by famous designers in Paris in the 40's...
The jacket is adorable and closes down the front with 6 self-fabric covered buttons. Measured with the jacket closed, bust is approx. 38" , waist is 28", shoulder to shoulder seam is 16" and from top of mid shoulder to waist seam is approx. 17" (this might be a stylized lower waist) the length of the jacket is approx. 22" to the tips of the flared hem. The jacket has a very interesting detail at the hem, you could thread a ribbon through the front panels - isn't that adorable? I think a wide, pink satin ribbon would be amazing! The sleeves are cocktail length at 19" from outer shoulder to cuff, and there is a 1" fabric cuff.
The skirt is approx. 28" at the waist and closes at the side with a metal zipper & button. The length is 31" and it flares out quit a bit from the waist, just gorgeous!
This outfit is in wonderful condition and the fabric is green throughout no fading or damage! The buttons have a tiny bit of darkening at the very outer edges and one button has a very tiny fray starting. The back of the inside collar has a bit of discolouration which may come out with a dryclean. The only other thing I found was a very tiny brownish (very, very faint) smudge on one sleeve, again, not sure if a dryclean with correct this - I only noticed it because it is an exceptionally sunny day here today!
Very rare, very collectible, very wearable, wonderful 40's novelty print suit. I don't think another will come along any time soon! I could not find a label so I am guessing it was home or dressmaker made.
