This kit was featured in the Esty Finds daily email in 2010 and 2012, and has also received Etsy front page exposure for each of the past 4 years!!

Be the hostess with the mostest when you make these easy and fabulous Easter eggs dyed with silk scraps! Plus, no more colorful fingers for weeks afterwards! No more drippy drying racks! No more stained clothing!

I began dyeing my Easter eggs this way 5 years ago after seeing a Martha Stewart episode that featured a demonstration for these oh-so-simple yet eye-popping eggs. You can read her article here for directions (

This ready-to-gift, ready-to-use kit includes:

- 16 different silk scraps from thrifted ties and blouses (in a variety of colors and patterns, but all will be the same high quality as used to make the eggs shown)
- 16 squares of white cloth (recycled linens - clean but may have small stains which will not affect results)
- 16 twist-ties
- printed instructions

You will also need:

- 16 small to medium-sized raw eggs (you can use large eggs, but the silk scraps may not cover them completely)
- 3 tbsp white vinegar
- Stove-top safe pot large enough to hold all the eggs (glass or enamel recommended, but stainless steel will work just as well)
- Enough water to cover all the eggs
- Tongs

(NOTE: this kit is fully reusable... each silk scrap can dye more than one egg, so you can use it for 2 or more batches of eggs if 16 just isn't enough for you!)

While individual results will vary, I have gotten great results every time I do this, and I'm sharing this great ready-to-use kit with you to spread the fun! I frequent thrift stores and estate sales in my supply outings, so I have the means to collect great silk items that I know will work for this project. My children love to make eggs this way because the results are so beautiful, and I love it because it's not messy!

I'd recommend trying this even if you don't want to purchase my kit to do it (though you'll pay more for gasoline and supplies if you go thrifting yourself!). It's a great project and my family always has a great time making these eggs together!
