These fabulous beads hail from Africa. They are commonly known as "vinyl record beads," though they are made from vulcanite, which is a compressed rubber product that was commonly used in the Victorian period to make jewelry. They are vintage, and hail from Mali. Women wear them as belly bracelets.

This listing is for a fabulous strand that is 14x.5mm thick. Red, yellow, and black are popular colors, but to find a large strand like this with such rich colors: pink, blue, green, and black! There are even a few striped beads on this strand. There are HUNDREDS of beads on this 31"+/- strand.

Temporarily strung on thread, you could wear these beads as-is. Or why not cut them apart and make some recycled vinyl magic of your own?
