This is a French enamelware lavabo, made around 1900 and used for washing hands. Although made in Czeschoslavakia, these were very popular in France and are usually referred to as French. Water was poured into the top and would drain out the bottom spigot. It required a basin or pail to catch the water. This is a plain utilitarian item which would have been likely found in a farmhouse kitchen. It has quite a bit of rust, indicating it has seen much use over the years. Please note also in picture #4 where a repair has been made to a hole in the bottom, obscuring part of the makers mark. Wonderfully simple and a beautiful addition to your country kitchen or bath.
