This painting shows a dark forest under a blue moon. An owl flies near a shaft of light.

Using the crumpled Masa paper technique produces wonderful background textures that make each painting surprising, even to the artist. Masa is a lightly sized Japanese rice paper. To make the painting, the paper is dampened, and then crumpled before being laid out flat and painted with sumi ink and watercolors. The crumpling and painting process can be repeated several times before the painting is finished, as was done with this painting. Small details can be added after the paper has dried.

Painting size: 14.5" high by 18.75" wide

Before being shipped, the painting will be placed inside a large clear envelope with matboard or foam core and then double-wrapped in cardboard to protect the artwork during shipping.
