Since the beginning, cultures around the world have had the desire to posses a tangible and personal form of worship, and these plaque style amulets reflect that desire. These particular amulets come from the Indian states of Rajasthan and Gujarat and were made from the late 19th to early 20th centuries (making the newest pieces around 75 years old).

This pendant features the goddess Kali, the consort of Shiva . In artistic depictions she is shown as a frightening, aggressive and murderous warrior, but this is far from the truth. In addition to being one of the most well known of the Hindu gods, she is also one of the most misunderstood. Derived from the Hindu and Sanskrit word meaning "time" and "black", Kali is believed to be the goddess of time and change, the remover of ego and destroyer of sin and ignorance. She only destroys what she intends to recreate and is the slayers of demons.

This pendant is made of of good coin silver (a traditional mixture of silver and other metals) and polishes very nicely. It has been stamped on a thin but sturdy sheet of coin silver. The bail is in excellent antique condition.

You will receive the piece shown. It has been strung on a strong, black woven cotton finished off with a adjustable knot for instant adornment.

This piece is indeed antique and it's condition reflects that. Worn edges and weathering are a product of time and use...not defects.
