This is a very sweet authentic American Indian necklace. It is Zuni handmade and purchased in New Mexico in the early 1990's. From a single strand of tiny "liquid silver" beads hangs a little hand carved turtle fetish that has been inlaid with different stones including malachite, lapis, turquoise and coral. The face and even the bottom of the turtle has been carved for additional detail. The clasp of the necklace is a screw in clasp that works perfectly. This is truly a collectible piece. The necklace hangs 10" from the clasp to the tip of the turtle's tail.

The turtle is a symbol of the earth among Zuni people. He is associated with self-reliance, non-violent defense and being a skillful navigator through life's obstacles. He was not a traditional Zuni fetish, but he is carved quite frequently today by Zuni people.
