Made of 100% cotton, this smock is completely reversible and easily washable. The simple red polka dot on one side reverses to a lovely red flower pattern from Michael Miller. Each side features a fun skinny pocket, made of the other side's fabric, for brushes or pencils or whatever your child fancies. Because sleeves on a smock never seem to fit right, can be restricting, and are always getting dipped in paint, the design is sleeveless. Two fabric ties in the back hold the smock in place, and the wrap-around design ensures that the child's shirt is fully protected from splatters and spills. And that's a great gift for parents!

The unusual red and white polkadot fabric, by Albert Hadley, was hand printed at a family owned textile mill near my house. Hadley, an interior decorator, had many famous clients, including the Rockefeller, Astor, Getty, and Gore families. Your child will be getting a very special, very beautiful smock! Note that because this smock is made to order, the pattern placement may differ slightly from the one pictured.

Why does a child need a beautiful smock? Why, for inspiration, of course! I am a strong believer in the Waldorf emphasis on surrounding children with beautiful things. Kids are naturally drawn to complementary colors, symmetry, and simple designs. When children have the opportunity to be creative with tools and spaces that look inviting and feel comfortable, they approach their art projects more calmly and with less distractability, and they seek out creative time more often. Your kids will be happy to wear a beautiful, soft smock because it makes them feel great while they do what they love! And you'll be pleased to see them so engaged and thoughtful with their work.

Smocks for kids are 21 inches (53 cm) long from shoulder to hem and fit children from about four to eight, depending on how tall they are. The child in the last photo is four years old. All seams are reinforced and the ties are quadruple-stitched on. Toss the smock in the wash on cold or warm with like colors and line dry or dry on medium. Like everything in my shop, this smock ships free in the US.

Please, use the smock for supervised creative activities only. Don't let your child sleep with it on or play sports with it! It's too loose-fitting for that.
