Vintage floral celluloid pin brooch from the 1930's to 1940's. It's an oval with the molded floral centerpiece mounted on a laquered wood base. The flowers are blue and white with an antiqued look. It's 2 3/4" x 1 7/8" and has a secure safety clasp. Excellent condition.

Celluloid:
An early plastic popular during the Art Deco period of the 20's and 30's and prized for the intricate detail that was obtained. It was gradually replaced by Bakelite and later on, lucite. Celluloid was useful for creating jewelry, jewelry boxes, hair accessories and many items that would earlier have been manufactured from ivory, horn or other expensive animal products. It was often referred to as "Ivorine" or "French Ivory".
