This is a rustic pine box with dovetailed corners, medium-brown stain, and a distressed finish. The topcoat is satin spar varnish for protection against splashes of water or dew. Hinges, handles, and latch are made of black leather and attached with brass hardware. A wooden wedge serves to keep the latch in place, but could be replaced by a lock (for a moderate level of security).

I built this box as a telescope eyepiece box, and as such, it has an oak eyepiece rack inside that holds up to 4 1.25" eyepieces. There is room in the front for flashlights, notebooks, filters, etc.

However, despite its original mission, the box could easily be repurposed as a lunchbox, toolbox, or a box to hold whatever small items you might want to keep in it. The eyepiece rack is easily removed by removing 2 screws.
