Description

An absolutely gorgeous original 1950’s party dress in a combination of turquoise lace and tulle. What a statement this gown would make at the approaching prom season ! The color is soft yet quite unusual and striking. The style typifies the 50’s - oh so feminine and figure flattering - perfect to accentuate a narrow waist. There are multiple layers to the skirt – a matching turquoise satin lining, topped with a floating skirt of layered blue tulle. There are six cascading tiers of tulle on this skirt, each overlapping the next. No maker’s label remains but this dress appears professionally made. No fabric contents label but this is likely a synthetic blend.

Note the special details on this striking dress – strapless wrapped lace (boned) bodice with sweetheart neckline and tulle trim accent at the bustline, and the fabulous twirling multi-layered tulle skirt. Note the dress is photographed using an additional crinoline to show the skirt to full advantage – the crinoline is not included.

The dress closes down the side with a hidden metal zipper. The entire dress is lined in matching turquoise satin acetate.

No vintage size label, but please see measurements below for proper fit. This is a small size which would likely best fit a modern size 0 or 2.

Measurements

Bust – 32-33” (possibly 34 small cup)
Waist – 23-24” (possibly 25” with a tight squeeze)
Hips – full
Length – 41.5”
Torso length (strapless) – 10.5”
Skirt length (waist to hem) – 31”

Condition

This dress is in excellent vintage condition. No holes or stains and underarms are clean. The tulle is crisp and fresh with wonderful drape and no visible tears. Only one minor mention. I noted some oxidation/color variation on the acetate lining of the bodice, which creates a rather pleasing two tone ombre effect, when seen through the lace overlay. There is also some minor soiling on the skirt lining, which is not visible through the tulle.

See my other listings for more stunning 50’s party/prom dresses, including an identical dress in lemon tulle & lace, which came from the same estate. Combination shipping is available at cost.
