The ammolite found on this stone was found in Central Utah. We surface collected for this rare gemstone in our spare time over several years. Ammolite alone is a rare gemstone, but this is even rarer given it was found in Utah (most ammolite comes from Canada). Ammolite comes from the shell of a fossil squid-like sea creature that lived during the Cretaceous Period between 70 and 120 million years ago. The Cretacesous includes the time of the dinosaurs. Ammolite is often compared to fire opal for its often brilliant fire in its colorful shell that may change color when turned in the light.

This piece was designed primarily with men in mind relative to design and color. The ammolite on this piece comprises about 30% of the surface of the original host rock although small flashes of color are only seen at any given moment as shown in the photos. The host rock is a mahogany color stone.

Approximate stone dimensions:
Length: 2.7 cm.
Width: 1.8 cm. at its widest point.

The ammolite stone is covered with an epoxy based resin as a protection for the stone. Ammolite is a relatively soft stone, comparative to fire opal, where both are best protected by a cab or resin.

The ammolite on this stone displays primarily reds, yellow/golds and greens in patterns that flash across portions of the stone with a nice chromatic color shift when turned. The piece comes with an attached, black synthetic leather, adjustable 26” cord for the necklace. Photos are taken to best display the fire in the ammolite stone.

Ammolite is a form of art that nature took millions of years to create. It is both a natural wonder and beautiful wear-able specimen. I am pleased to have played a part in enhancing it in a way that can be enjoyed by others.

Quality assurance is very important at USAmmolite. If you are not happy with your piece, it may be returned, shipping pre-paid, for a full refund of the purchase price within 30 days of purchase.
