This original plein air painting was done during a fabulous stay on the island of Maui at the Travaasa Resort in Hana. The image is that of Alau Island, a small volcanic island visible just off the coast.

Plein air refers to painting done outside rather than in a studio. The term comes from the French en plein air, meaning 'in the open air'. The Impressionists were particularly interested in the influence of changing light outdoors on color.

Paintings make wonderful housewarming or wedding gifts!
