This is a beautiful antique Gothic Revival stained glass fragment. It was once part of an 1800s church window - forming a part of its decorative border.

The lovely simple piece depicts a stylised plant form flanked with colums and Tudor crosses.
It is hand-painted by a Victorian stained glass artisan. The motif and design are inspired by medieval Gothic ornamentation ~ the early illuminated sacred manuscripts and the embellishments, tapestries, embroideries, bejeweled crowns and garments of the royal palaces and castles, bishops and princesses. The Gothic Revival was about looking back to the ornamentation of the Gothic middle ages (1100-1500) ~ and this is a lovely example of that drawing on the past.

This piece looks best near to quite strong light and casts a wonderful reflection (see last photo). It is in excellent condition.
The glass measures 3 1/2 x 4 inches.

This piece of English architectural history would make a lovely addition to a vintage-inspired room or display.
