Natural Wood Pendant *Oak/Duir* Unique Ogham "Secret Sigil" Design!

Included in a beautiful treasury celebrating mellow autumn colours by cardioceras here: http://www.etsy.com/treasury/MTIzMDc2MDZ8MjcyMDU2OTk4NQ/autumn-colors

One of my "Secret Sigil" range of unique pendants, with the symbol marked onto the back of the piece to be hidden from view. The Ogham symbols corresponding to the tree which furnished the wood for each pendant is burned into the wood at the back, in the same way that Ogham was marked along the edge of stones using the square edge as the centre line, which makes them less obvious than when the symbols are marked in the usual way... hence the name "Secret Sigil". At a recent Witchcraft Fair I attended these proved by far the most popular items on my stall, and I can't make as many as I'd like because I only choose the most beautiful pieces of wood for them, although I'm hoping to make them a regular feature of my Etsy shop.

This particular pendant is made from a piece of Oak that has been quarter cut to show the wonderful grain patterns. Quarter cut timber is more beautiful and expensive than regular straight cut wood, and you get less of it from each log. This piece I cut as an experiment to see if I could reproduce mechanically milled timber on a small scale with my basic hand tools, and as you can see it is possible, just far from easy! :-) It's deliciously smooth to the touch, with the Ogham character for Duir burned deeply into the back for a tactile delight. Sure to gain compliments wherever you go, this pendant is perfect for both ritual and every day wear.

These "Secret Sigil" pendants are popular with anyone who prefers to be a little more discreet about their beliefs and doesn’t always want to wear anything too overtly pagan. On the most simple level they're a lovely way to carry a piece of nature with you throughout your day, and if you choose the wood type for the magical qualities you require and wear it with intent, then a pendant like this one will surround you in a bubble of sacred space and envelop you in its subtle influence. The Celtic Ogham symbols marked on the back can be a constant reminder of your Celtic heritage and help you to invoke the powers of the tree spirit. If you don’t want to wear it then you can carry it in your pocket or just hang it somewhere in your home or car. It would make a perfect gift for anyone born in the right month according to the Celtic tree calendar, but as the Celts used a lunar calendar I’ll leave you to work out when that would be as it varies slightly from year to year.

It has been finished with a light coat of oil and will come strung on a waxed cotton cord, so it contains no animal products or metal parts.

Oak is known for its properties of strength and endurance, and can provide strong protection. It is excellent for magic to do with power or dominion, and can be helpful in spells to do with prosperity.

Size: Almost two inches long, three quarters of an inch across and less than a quarter of an inch thick.
48mm x 18mm x 5mm.

This item will come with a list of the magical properties of the wood, a picture and care instructions.

For a full list of the woods I might have available as well as their magical properties, associated folklore and a bunch of other stuff, check out my blog at: http://www.mazedasastoat.blogspot.com/
