This whimsical piece is one of my favorite Victorian figural silver designs, a silver plate porcupine that holds toothpick "quills"! This unique piece holds about 70 toothpicks, and is a perfect conversation piece for a buffet or to set beside an hors d'oeuvre platter. The porcupine is in excellent antique condition, no dents or breakage, with a dark patina and lots of tarnish. Made by the Meriden B Co., as marked on the bottom, which dates this piece as c. 1869-1898.

The porcupine measures approx. 3.25" from tail to snout, and 2" high (without toothpicks).
