Where do you get your unique black findings?

My items are not purchased from a wholesaler, but are created specifically for my shop in collaboration with American metal manufacturers and a hose Island master finisher. The small, family run businesses of this region take great pride in their craftsmanship and materials, under strict supervision of U.S. metal and labor regulations. No lead, cadmium or nickel is used and all labor is fairly paid and safely conducted in highly regulated working conditions in compliance with the US Fair Labor Standards Act. Why does your finish have variations?

My pewter and brass are finished by one very small New England family business, not a factory. Each piece of Fallen Angel Brass is hand rubbed twice and finished with a non toxic lacquer for durability. Variations in the dark finish are by design and part of the unique Fallen Angel Brass patina. I strive for uniformity and consistency, but also value the variation that comes from the one-man process that creates my finish. With wear, my finish will age, but in a pleasing antiqued way. My brass is meant to be worn and aged further with use.

Who takes the photos in your shop?

My thumbnail photos are taken by me in natural daylight. The color you see is the real color of the paper background and the Fallen Angel Brass components. Changes in color vary according to the natural light and the variations in the dark finish which are by design and part of the unique Fallen Angel Brass patina. Background papers and ephemera in photos are authentic antiques.

This beautiful black brass cross features ornate scroll work and flourishes. The back is flat and filled, not hollow. This cross pendant has a nice weight to it and is suitable as a focal piece on a sturdy chain or on a weighty rosary. My 7mm and 8mm jump rings fit with this pendant.

A thriving industry sprang up around Victorian era mourning customs, as all grieving women in a family would need a black counterpart for each wardrobe item and accessory. Mourning could last upwards of two years, during which time societal obligations would be limited, but ladies still maintained their fashionable standards when in public and while receiving guests.
