Good Housekeeping Everyday Cook Book: A Combined Memorandum Cook Book and Scrap Book. Arranged by Isabel Gordon Curtis, Associate Editor of Good Housekeeping. NY: Phelps Publishing Company, 1903. "The Good Housekeeping Library Number One." First Edition. Slim octavo (9 1/4" x 4"). 320 pp. With Introduction, Table of Contents, "A Few Rules," Table of Weights and Measures, "General Remarks," 14 pp. of b&w photographic illustrations of completed dishes, and Index. Softcover; grey paper cover with black title and pictorial decoration. Intended as a combination cookbook and chef's journal: recipes are printed on verso of each page; every recto is blank for "Memoranda" (space for notes, alterations, and family recipes).

Fair/Good condition (back cover split half-way; chips and tears to paper cover; occasional interior soil; paper slightly tanned). No marks or writing in memoranda pages. In remarkably nice condition for such a fragile book. First ever Good Housekeeping publication. The book was reprinted in 1998 to mark the anniversary of the first Good Housekeeping cookbook; this is the true vintage 1903 original.

From the Introduction: "These recipes represent the everday routine of cookery, by many of the best cooks and housekeepers at home and abroad. It is in fact, as in name, an EVERYDAY cook book." Before there was Martha, home cooks looked to this classic volume. A great vintage gift for any chef or foodie.
