This rectangular quilt features an enticing landscape, composed of the patterns of batik fabrics. My original design was hand-pieced together into a collage landscape; I photographed this collage image, custom-printed it onto quilting weight fabric, and sewed it into an educational quilt for you! In this way, I have found a way to have the same beauty of the original collage... at a more affordable price to you than my original hand-pieced quilts! The landscape depicts a meandering stream that recedes towards foothills and mountains, and the landscape contains three distinct segments: air, land, and water.

With this activity, the child selects an animal and categorizes it upon the quilt according to its habitat. For example... "Does an octopus live in the air? No, it lives in the water! Where do we spend most of our time - in the air, land, or water?"

This material is designed so that you, as a parent or teacher, can use the nine provided animals and/or add animals of your choosing to the activity. You may also wish to change the animals often or encourage your children to find animals in their play sets to add to the basket. Although I designed this educational material for a Montessori classroom, it is appropriate for lessons within a Montessori classroom or your home. Even very young children are curious about animals in the world around them; this lesson capitalizes upon a child's interests.

In Montessori primary classrooms, young children receive lessons about our planet which is composed of air, land, and water. Children then explore the continents (cultures and indigenous animals), and the life cycles of animals. This educational material is a beautiful extension to the lessons in the geography and science curricula.

In using this material in my own classroom, I find that children LOVE to choose this quilt, thereby giving the teacher continued opportunities to discuss animals, our earth, and habitats.

Air, Land, & Water Categorization Quilt, measuring approximately 9.75" wide x 11.5" tall
The front of the quilt is a single piece of custom-printed quilting-weight fabric with my original design. There is quilt batting inside and the back is solid blue.
9 accompanying plastic animals/insects (3 from air/3 from land/3 from water)

Please note: Materials are an original design and cannot be reproduced for sale.
Please also note: Each quilt is handmade and may vary slightly from the one pictured. The nine accompanying animals may also differ from those shown. (For example, the sea animals may include an octopus, rather than a lobster... or other comparable changes.) Please rest assured that the quality of your quilt and animals will be consistent with those pictured.

Thanks so much!!!
