This is an incredible figural gold nugget pendant (or very large charm) featuring a scene on the front of a cabin and cache on either side of a lone pine tree. The dark green jade stone is nephrite, not jadeite.

This pendant is a large, heavy round box (suitable to use as a pillbox). Gold nuggets encircle the front as well as the back cover which says ALASKA POKE in the center. A flattened nugget is loose inside.

A poke was a receptacle (usually a pouch) used to hold gold nuggets or dust.

The inside of the cover is marked:

KW
10K

I haven't been able to find out what company used the KW mark.

As the pictures show, this piece is well made and quite detailed.

This is an old piece (probably from the 1940s). Following the recent enormous increase in the price of gold, it has become difficult to find old nugget jewelry.

Many pieces of jewelry listed on ebay and elsewhere as "nugget" jewelry are not actually made with nuggets of gold that came from the ground but instead are made of melted gold pour into a mold carved to resemble nuggets. Here are things to look for in real nugget jewelry:

1. If you look at the piece from the side, you can often see 2 layers - a base plate (which is usually 10K) and a top layer of nuggets soldered to the base plate.
2. The natural color of nuggets is very yellow - a different color from 14K gold.
3. Nuggets are "rough" looking, not smooth. This look is difficult to imitate in a manufactured piece.
4. Most (but not all) nugget jewelry was made in Alaska. Occasionally I find a piece marked Alaska or Alaska gold.

Layaway is available for this item. The terms are 1/3 at purchase, 1/3 in 30 days, and the final 1/3 in another 30 days. Layaway payments are nonrefundable.

With the current very high price of gold, this pendant is very well-priced. I have priced as low as I can, so further discounts are not available..

SIZE: This pendant measures 1 1/16" wide by 1 1/8" tall. The overall height including the jump ring bail is 1 3/8". The weight of the pendant is 15.7 grams. The nugget weighs an additional 1.0 gram.

PICTURES HAVE BEEN ENLARGED TO SHOW DETAIL. PLEASE SEE SIZE SECTION ABOVE FOR ACCURATE MEASUREMENTS AND WEIGHTS.

TO ASSURE THAT YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE PURCHASING, I ENCOURAGE YOU TO USE A RULER TO SEE WHAT SIZE THE ITEM IS. MOST RULERS HAVE A MILLIMETER SCALE OPPOSITE THE INCH SCALE.

CONDITION: This item is in excellent condition. There is no damage, and it has nice age patina (not overly bright like new gold).

BACKGROUND: I've sold vintage and estate jewelry for nearly 30 years and have heard the same compliments over and over. Customers love jewelry that's different from what they see in jewelry stores. The low prices are an added bonus.

Today I'm listing several gold nugget charms and pendants. All are old ones.

ETSY SHIPPING: All packages are fully insured, and all packages to U.S. locations have tracking.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: In order to comply with Paypal's signature requirements for high value packages, express mail is used for all packages with a value (including shipping) of $250 or more.

I complete documents for international packages honestly, showing the sale price as the value. Please do not ask me to reduce the value or show the item as a gift.

Some countries have restrictions on importing jewelry and other items. I cannot, of course, ship to your country if import of a particular class of goods is prohibited.
