This vintage luncheon menu from Bob's restaurant in San Francisco, California for Friday, April 23, 1948 harkens back to the day when you could order a filet mignon bacon wrapped steak with french fried potatoes and soup or salad and not feel the least bit guilty about it. Now we'd just have the soup or salad.....

It is a lightweight cardboard tri-fold menu measuring 11" by 6" folded closed. It is bright pinky-red, smoky blue and ivory Art Deco on the outside and ivory on the inside. It has pinky-red, smoky blue and black printing throughout. It is from 1948.

The SF restaurant on Geary at Mason offered classic American lunches and dessert- no cocktails served at noon in this pre-Mad Men era....

Filet Mignon bacon-wrapped with french fries and soup or salad: $2.90
Broiled Half of Rhode Island Red Chicken: $1.50
Crab Louie: $1.00
Fresh Ginger Bread with Hot Rum Sauce: $.30
Pot of coffee: $.25

The inside of the menu has fabulous vintage sketches of dancing pigs, cows and chickens and a funny chef. The inside is very slightly yellowed with age but completely readable. There are tiny pin holes at the top where it was mounted at one time.

The back turns the whole thing into a giant souvenir postcard you can mail to someone! This would be amazing framed- the inside is the best part.

All we're missing here are the cocktails.....and as for me, I always admire girlies with plump figures.....
