Ms. Jeannie fell in love with the name of this book. And also with the author's dedication to her foster son, William Charles Norris, which reads:

With Shakespeare, Conrad, Poe and many another
Give bookshelf space to this abashed newcomer,
Writ by that friend for who, in life's midsummer,
You give new sweetness to the name of Mother

A tad sentimental, yes, but sweet nonetheless. The storyline is about a woman of society who falls in love with her chauffeur. The book was made into a movie in 1930, produced by MGM, and starred Kay Francis, Kay Johnson and Zasu Pitts.

About the Author: Kathleen Norris (1880-1966), an American writer, made a career out of writing popular romance novels detailing matters of privileged society, (30+ throughout her lifetime) as well as newspaper articles and stories that appeared in Ladies Home Journal, Atlantic, Women's Home Companion and others. She was the highest paid female author of her time. Her husband, Charles Norris was also a writer as well as her brother-in-law, Frank Norris.
